In January of 2024 the new bail bond law went into affect that outlawed financing of professional bail in the State of Arkansas. In the past bondsman had the ability to finance “premium” if they wanted to.

In the beginning there was challenge to this concept, however coming up on two years since this law has passed there has been benefits and some troubles. The benefits is it almost instantly reduced the amount of what we call “bond writers” out of this industry. Basically these were agents that did not care about charges, appearance, community or alleged victims.

There has been some drawbacks for the accused but very minimal. However this has lead to more “reasonable” or reduced bail amounts to be able to “bond” out.

Agents that have been caught financing have been fined, the company that they represent gets fined and some have even had the or license revoked. The purpose of this post is to make sure that if you do have business with a bondsman and they “finance” it is illegal and this could have issues for your pending case.

When you need bail help, be sure that you choose a bonding company that is professional, follows all state and local rules. Ask questions and be sure that they have a great relationship with the local jail as well as the courts.
