What is a co-signer on a bail bond?

Short answer

A co-signer (also called an indemnitor) is a person who agrees to be financially responsible if the defendant skips court.

A co-signer guarantees the bondsman that the defendant will appear at every court date. If the defendant fails to appear, the co-signer can be held liable for the full bond amount, plus any costs the bondsman incurs in tracking down the defendant.

Co-signers don’t have to be related to the defendant, but they typically need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a valid Arkansas ID or driver’s license
  • Show proof of stable income or assets
  • Be able to vouch for the defendant’s reliability

Most Triple R bonds require at least one co-signer. We’ll walk you through what’s needed when you call.
